An RS485 to Ethernet converter bridges the gap between legacy serial communication devices and modern IP networks — and the DTECH IOT9031 does this for all three major serial protocols simultaneously. Whether your equipment runs RS485, RS422 or RS232, a single IOT9031 unit converts those signals to TCP/IP and puts them on your Ethernet network, enabling remote monitoring, centralised control and long-distance data transfer without replacing existing serial hardware.

Why You Need an RS485 to Ethernet Converter

RS485, RS422 and RS232 remain the communication backbone of industrial automation, building management, access control, POS and data acquisition systems. The problem is distance: RS232 maxes out at roughly 15 metres; RS485 extends to 1,200 metres but only within a local network segment. An RS485 to Ethernet converter removes those distance constraints entirely by converting serial data to TCP/IP packets that travel over any Ethernet infrastructure — local LAN, WAN or the internet. The RS-485 standard, as maintained by the TIA, defines the electrical specification; this converter handles the protocol translation transparently in both directions.

4 Working Modes for Every Deployment

The IOT9031 operates in four configurable modes to match your network topology. TCP Server mode allows multiple clients to connect to the converter. TCP Client mode has the converter initiate a connection to a remote server. UDP Client and UDP Server modes support connectionless data transfer for broadcast or multicast applications. All modes are configured through the included Windows host computer software — no command-line setup or manual register editing required.

Three Serial Ports, One Device

Port 1 handles RS422 (full duplex) and RS485 (half duplex) — supporting up to 256 RS485 devices or 10 RS422 devices on a single bus. Port 2 handles RS232 for point-to-point connections to PLCs, barcode scanners, printers or legacy computers. Serial baud rate is configurable from 300 bps to 115,200 bps. The serial port buffer is set to “never clear”, ensuring no data loss during communication.

Modbus RTU/TCP Transparent Pass-Through

The IOT9031 supports Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP two-way transparent transmission, making it directly compatible with SCADA systems, HMI panels, energy meters, VFDs, PLCs and any Modbus-enabled device. No Modbus gateway software is required — the converter handles the RTU-to-TCP conversion automatically.

Industrial-Grade Reliability

The IOT9031 is built for environments where consumer-grade equipment fails. ESD protection is rated at ±15KV (IEC61000-4-2 contact discharge), ±18KV (IEC61000-4-2 air gap discharge) and ±15KV (EIA/JEDEC human body model). Operating temperature spans -20°C to 85°C with humidity tolerance of 5%–95%. Power input accepts DC 9–35V across a wide range to suit different industrial power rails, and the unit also supports both standard and non-standard POE power delivery.

Factory Reset

If network configuration needs to be reset: long-press the button before powering on, then release after 5 seconds once powered. The device returns to factory defaults.

Applications

Industrial automation and SCADA, access control and gate systems, time and attendance terminals, POS and credit card systems, building management systems (BMS), power distribution monitoring, CCTV and surveillance infrastructure, data acquisition systems, bank and ATM self-service systems, rail transit control and medical equipment integration.
