The USB to TTL cable 3.3V provides a USB-to-UART TTL serial interface for direct communication with microcontrollers, single-board computers and embedded devices — a fundamentally different connection type from USB-to-RS232 adapters. Where RS-232 cables connect to industrial equipment via DB9 connectors, a USB-to-TTL cable connects directly to the UART header pins of devices such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ESP8266, ESP32, STM32, OpenWRT routers and any embedded system with a UART debug or programming port. The DTECH IOT6552 uses the genuine FT232 chip from FTDI, supports selectable 3.3V or 5V TTL logic levels, delivers baud rates from 300bps to 3Mbps in asynchronous full-duplex mode, and includes TX and RX LED indicators for real-time data flow visibility. Available in 1m, 1.8m and 3m lengths with 3PIN, 4PIN or 6PIN connector cap options to match different embedded hardware configurations.
USB to TTL Cable 3.3V and 5V — Why Voltage Selection Matters
TTL UART serial operates at logic-level voltages — not the ±12V signals of RS-232. The logic voltage must match the target device exactly. Most modern embedded hardware — Raspberry Pi, ESP32, ESP8266, STM32, NVIDIA Jetson and the majority of current microcontrollers — uses 3.3V logic. Older and Arduino-ecosystem devices, including the Arduino Uno (ATmega328P), classic AVR microcontrollers and some industrial UART interfaces, use 5V logic. Connecting a 5V TTL output to a 3.3V UART pin can permanently damage the microcontroller. The IOT6552’s selectable voltage eliminates this risk, allowing the same USB to TTL cable 3.3V to safely connect to a Raspberry Pi serial console today and a 5V Arduino UART tomorrow without any hardware changes. The six-signal interface (TXD, RXD, GND, VCC 5V, RTS, CTS) also supports hardware flow control for protocols that require it.
For RS-232 serial connections to industrial equipment with DB9 ports — PLCs, CNC machines, managed switches, routers — see the DTECH DT-5011 USB to RS-232 cable and the full industrial serial product range at bam.ae.
FT232 Chip, Multi-Pin Caps and Driver Support
The IOT6552 uses the genuine FT232 chip from FTDI, the industry-standard USB-to-UART bridge built into professional development tools and industrial serial adapters worldwide. FTDI maintains signed drivers continuously across all current and legacy Windows versions and Linux, ensuring the cable installs correctly and survives OS updates without driver failures. Three connector pin cap configurations — 3PIN (TX, RX, GND), 4PIN (TX, RX, GND, VCC) and 6PIN (TX, RX, GND, VCC, RTS, CTS) — accommodate the range of UART header layouts across Raspberry Pi GPIO, ESP module programming headers, router console ports and custom PCB UART pads. When connected, Windows creates a virtual COM port (visible in Device Manager as USB Serial Port e.g. COM3), recognised directly by PuTTY, TeraTerm, Arduino IDE Serial Monitor, esptool.py and any serial terminal software.
LED Indicators, Baud Rate and Applications
The TX (green) and RX (blue) LEDs flash during data transmission and reception, respectively, confirming active communication at a glance and isolating fault direction during debugging — if TX flashes but RX does not, the target device is not responding; if neither flashes, the issue is in port configuration or wiring. The 300bps to 3Mbps baud rate range covers everything from slow telemetry protocols to high-speed firmware flashing. Operating temperature of -20°C to 70°C and 5–95% relative humidity make it suitable for industrial workbench and field use.
Typical applications: Raspberry Pi serial console access (GPIO14/15), Arduino and AVR UART firmware programming, ESP8266/ESP32 flash download and AT command testing, STM32 serial debug, OpenWRT/DD-WRT router console access, embedded Linux boot log monitoring, IoT device commissioning, and any UART-based development or debugging task.
