An RS232 male-to-female crossover cable combines two functions in a single cable: a gender change (male plug on one end, female socket on the other) and null modem wiring (23 crossover — Pin 2 and Pin 3 swapped). The DTECH DT-9006B is the correct cable when you need to connect serial devices with mismatched DB9 genders and also require crossed TX/RX lines for direct DTE-to-DTE communication. Built with a tinned copper core, nickel-plated connectors and an environmentally friendly PVC jacket, it delivers professional-grade reliability in both office and industrial environments.
When Do You Need an M-F 23 Crossover Cable?
RS-232 serial communication requires matching both the gender and the wiring of a cable to the devices being connected. The DT-9006B addresses scenarios where a straight male-to-female extension cable is not enough because the devices also require null modem (crossed) wiring. A common example: a PC’s COM port (female DB9) needs to connect via a cable directly to another device that communicates on Pin 3 (TX) and Pin 2 (RX) — the same as the PC. Rather than using a separate null modem adapter and extension cable, the DT-9006B provides both the gender transition and the 23 crossover in one cable. The male plug connects into the female COM port on one device; the female socket on the other end accepts a male DB9 plug from the peripheral or second device, with Pin 2 and Pin 3 already crossed inside. As defined by the TIA/EIA RS-232 standard, standard DTE devices (PCs, PLCs, routers) transmit on Pin 3 and receive on Pin 2 — the 23 crossover ensures each device’s TX reaches the other’s RX correctly. Always confirm your device’s required wiring from its manual before purchasing.
How the 23 Crossover Differs from Full Crossover
The DT-9006B uses a 23 crossover — a 3-wire null modem configuration that crosses only Pins 2 and 3, with Pin 5 (GND) connected straight through. This is the most common null modem wiring for simple serial communication without hardware handshaking. If your devices require a full null modem with additional handshaking lines (DTR/DSR, RTS/CTS swapped), a full crossover cable is needed instead. Check the device documentation to confirm which configuration applies.
Construction Built for Long-Term Use
Inside the DT-9006B, the tinned copper core prevents the oxidation that degrades bare copper over time, maintaining stable signal quality across years of use — particularly important in environments with humidity variation or temperature cycling such as factory floors, server rooms and industrial control cabinets. Nickel-plated DB9 connectors resist corrosion at the contact surface and provide a secure mechanical fit through repeated connection cycles. The environmentally friendly PVC outer jacket is flexible enough for tight cable routing while durable under professional daily use.
Plug-and-Play Across All Platforms
No drivers, no configuration. The DT-9006B supports the RS-232 serial protocol natively and is recognised immediately by Windows, Linux, industrial HMIs and SCADA platforms. Connect and communicate.
4 Length Options
Available in 1.5m, 2m, 3m and 5m. The 1.5m suits desk and workbench setups; 3m and 5m are ideal for rack-to-device runs, control panel installations and equipment spread across adjacent bays.
Typical Applications
Connecting PCs to serial devices requiring null modem wiring, accessing router and switch serial consoles with a single cable, linking PLC programming ports to laptops where genders and null modem wiring are both needed, extending serial console access in control cabinets, and any application where M-F gender combined with 23 crossover solves the connection in one cable.
