An RS232 male to female full crossover cable combines gender adaptation and complete null modem wiring in a single cable: one end has a male DB9 plug, the other a female DB9 socket, and all functional RS-232 signal pairs are crossed end-to-end. The DTECH DT-9007B is the correct cable when devices with different DB9 genders need to communicate directly over RS-232 with full hardware handshaking — eliminating the need for a separate null modem adapter stacked onto an extension lead.
Why Use an RS232 Male to Female Full Crossover Cable?
The DT-9007A (M-M full crossover) serves setups where both devices present female DB9 ports — for example, two PCs whose COM ports are female. The DT-9007B addresses a different scenario: where one device has a female DB9 port (typically a PC or industrial controller COM port) and the other device or its cable presents a male DB9 plug. The DT-9007B’s male plug connects into the female port on the first device, and its female socket accepts the male plug from the second device or cable, with TX/RX, RTS/CTS and DTR/DSR already crossed inside. It also functions as a null modem extension — the male end connects into an existing female serial socket, and the female socket at the other end extends that port with full crossover wiring already built in.
What Full Crossover Wiring Provides
Basic RS-232 communication can run on three wires — TX, RX and GND. Many industrial devices, modems, PLCs and data acquisition systems, however, rely on hardware flow control signals to manage data transfer: RTS (Request to Send), CTS (Clear to Send), DTR (Data Terminal Ready) and DSR (Data Set Ready). As defined by the TIA/EIA RS-232 standard, these signals are precisely specified on the DB9 connector pinout. The full crossover configuration of the DT-9007B crosses Pins 2↔3 (TX/RX), Pins 7↔8 (RTS/CTS) and Pins 4↔6 (DTR/DSR), with Pin 5 (GND) straight through. This ensures that every device output signal reaches the correct counterpart input on the other end. A device that checks for CTS or DSR before transmitting will never initiate communication unless these signals are properly crossed. Always confirm your device’s required wiring from its documentation before purchasing.
Full Crossover vs 23 Crossover — M-F Variants
Both the DT-9007B and the DT-9006B (RS232 M-F 23 crossover cable) are male-to-female serial cables, but their wiring is fundamentally different. The DT-9006B crosses only Pin 2 and Pin 3 (TX and RX) — sufficient for devices that communicate without hardware handshaking. The DT-9007B crosses all functional signal pairs, making it the correct choice for any device that uses RTS/CTS or DTR/DSR for flow control or device-ready confirmation. The device manual specifies which wiring is required.
Reliable Construction for Professional Use
The DT-9007B uses a tinned copper core that resists oxidation and maintains low contact resistance across years of use — particularly important in factory, rack and control cabinet environments where cables face temperature variation and repeated handling. Nickel-plated DB9 connectors provide corrosion-resistant mating surfaces and mechanical durability through repeated connection cycles. The environmentally friendly PVC outer jacket is flexible enough for routing in tight cable trays and equipment bays while being durable enough for professional daily use.
Plug-and-Play, Five Length Options
No configuration or drivers needed. The DT-9007B supports the RS-232 serial protocol natively and is recognised immediately by Windows, Linux, macOS, industrial HMIs and SCADA platforms. Available in 0.5m, 1.5m, 2m, 3m and 5m — 0.5m suits tight panel connections, while 3m and 5m cover adjacent equipment bays and longer rack runs.
